Humanitarian and Operations Leader
Nadia Mekonnen

Nadia Mekonnen is a humanitarian and operations leader with over a decade of experience managing large-scale, high-impact global programs in complex crisis settings. At the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), she managed and supported multi-billion-dollar humanitarian portfolios and led efforts across major responses, including Yemen, the Democratic Republic of the Congo Ebola outbreak, the Ethiopia conflict, Ukraine, and rapid emergency deployments to Haiti following natural disasters.
She brings deep expertise in humanitarian operations, public health response, workforce and HR systems, and cross-functional coordination—overseeing programs from strategic design to field implementation. Her ability to operate at scale, manage risk, and lead in high-pressure environments underpins her role in strengthening organizational effectiveness and global impact.
She holds a B.A. in International Studies from American University and a Master of Applied Science in Humanitarian Health from Johns Hopkins University.
