Merette Khalil

Merette Khalil is a multilingual health systems researcher and a passionate advocate for gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights with experience spanning national, regional, and global levels.

Merette has dedicated her career to centering women’s voices, leadership, and rights in health policies, services, and systems. Currently, Merette leads the PUSH Campaign, a global movement advocating of women-centered care and midwives. Previously, she spearheaded several multi-million-voice campaigns translating the demands of What Women and What Young People Want for their health and wellbeing into evidence and policy action. Merette previously worked as a gender and health systems researcher at the World Health Organization.

Merette’s commitment to gender-transformative health systems is evident in her leadership roles, serving as co-chair of PMNCH’s Evidence and Accountability Working Group, founding YourEgyptianDoula to combat obstetric violence in Egypt, and co- founded Women in Global Health Egypt, proudly the first in Arab Region and one of few entirely youth-led in the movement.

Recognized for her advocacy and leadership, Merette has spoken at the White House COVID-19 Summit, the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the World Health Assembly and Summit, and the G20. She continues to push for reproductive justice, gender equality, human rights, youth empowerment, and interfaith and international cooperation.
