Dr. Sara Causevic is a global health leader with a strong commitment to advancing gender equality and health equity. With over two decades of experience in global and public health, Dr. Causevic has held diverse roles in academia, consultancy, and international organizations, including the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), where she specializes in health policy, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and humanitarian support. Her work spans policy analysis, research, advocacy, and public health program evaluation. She is also a Commissioner at The Lancet Commission on peaceful societies through health equity and gender equality.
A key advocate for women in global health leadership, Dr. Causevic has co-founded Women in Global Health Sweden and networks dedicated to SRHR. Her work focuses on ensuring that health policies are both inclusive and equitable, promoting gender-sensitive approaches across all levels of global health governance. She is dedicated to amplifying the voices of women in health leadership, ensuring that gender equality is central to health systems worldwide.
She holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from Karolinska Institutet, alongside a Master’s in Global Health Policy from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and she was a Fulbright fellow at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Causevic currently serves as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Public Health Sciences at Stockholm University, where she focuses on health systems, global health governance, and gender equality in health policies.
Dr. Causevic’s leadership and expertise continue to drive forward international initiatives that aim to bridge the gap between gender and health, advocating for stronger systems that promote the health rights of women and vulnerable populations globally.
