Sexual Abuse: Story from a Health Policy Worker in Africa

For a capacity-building program, there was a conference in a city outside my own and we made a trip. He was a senior colleague and one night I stayed behind with him and others at the workshop venue after the program was over. We had dinner and were about to leave when he started touching me inappropriately. He grabbed one of my breasts and butt at some point. The others didn’t see and I slapped him which is when the others noticed our interaction. They asked what happened, I told them and he completely denied it. And everyone laughed it off and pretended nothing happened and continue their conversation. I was so MAD…I left for my hotel room. Never spoke of the event.
