Georgia USA
Founded: January 2021
Women in Global Health Georgia, USA, brings together women across the southern US to advocate for gender equality and to bolster women’s leadership in global health. We are committed to elevating and empowering women’s roles in global health. We aim to bridge gaps, connect leaders, and advocate for an equitable healthcare future where women’s contributions are recognized and valued.
Get in touch
Our Chapter formation began with a Fall 2019 meeting of women across several Georgia global health and higher education institutions. Several of us had reached out to WGH Global about beginning a Chapter, so there is clearly a need! We implemented a stakeholder survey in early 2020 to identify priority goals for the Chapter.
Our aims
Building on the global goals of Women in Global Health, the WGH Georgia USA Chapter provides community-building, mentoring, and leadership development. We provide the opportunity to engage with other women working in global health across organizations. While the need for mentoring in early career phases is widely recognized, we also build opportunities for mentorship and peer-based support across all career phases, with a particular emphasis on supporting diversity in the global health workforce. Additionally, we help develop leadership skills for women, who are widely represented across Georgia-based global health organizations but are still not well-represented in leadership, particularly women of color.
