Malawi
Founded: March 2020
Women in Global Health (WGH) Malawi was established in June 2020 when a group of emerging female leaders saw potential in developing a network of women to enhance skills for influential, transformative leadership. The chapter is a safe space for women to build confidence and puts a spotlight on strong female leaders. It is an advocacy group that aims to ensure more women attain positions of power in Malawi’s global health infrastructure. Women are 70% of the health and care workforce but hold only 25% of leadership roles. Around the world, women health workers are shaping health and leading health in their communities but are underpaid, often unpaid, undervalued and unprotected. Global health is weakened by inequity and lack of diversity in leadership. This is what Women in Global Health Malawi and allies are fighting to change. The Women in Global Health Malawi Chapter’s journey is a testament to the power of collective action, resilience, and the unwavering commitment to gender equity in global health leadership. As the chapter grows and progresses, it paves the way for a future where women play an equal and vital role in shaping the health landscape, bringing us closer to realising the vision of sustainable development goals. The story of this chapter exemplifies the transformative potential that lies in the hands of dedicated individuals working together for a more inclusive and equitable world.
