In this workshop, Phil Dickie, an experienced news editor of 40 years, provided an overview of the basic dos and don’ts of crafting the perfect press release. He thought us about writing styles targeted for a news media audience, and the types of headlines and lead paragraphs that can grab an editor’s attention.
Using recent examples of press releases issued by the global team, he walked us through how to contextualize the press release for the audience in our different countries. We analyzed the components of a good press release, how to prepare and order messaging and the ways to target media contacts to bring our messages and advocacy goals to wider audiences.
