Four years after the groundbreaking 2019 Political Declaration on Universal Health Coverage (UHC), we find ourselves at a pivotal moment. We are actively seeking the political will, funding, and concrete actions necessary to ensure comprehensive, high-quality services for all, regardless of gender, citizenship, or any other factor. The 2019 Declaration included a critical call for gender equality within UHC.
In 2023, following the UN High-Level Meeting on UHC, Member States have a unique opportunity to strengthen this commitment, embedding gender-responsive health systems and recognizing SRHR as integral to UHC.
Access to sexual and reproductive health rights is fundamental to overall well-being, yet often overlooked. COVID-19 amplified this need, causing disruptions in family planning and leading to unintended pregnancies.
Despite progress, many forces oppose gender equality, human rights, and SRHR. We need global frameworks based on human rights to guide national policies, ensure gender-responsive budgeting, and foster meaningful participation. Governments must step up to ensure equitable access to healthcare.
Join us on September 19, 2023, to discuss these challenges and drive change toward a more inclusive future within UHC.
