Community Health Workers (CHWs) are vital in achieving health for all. Women are the majority (over 70%) of CHWs worldwide. But most women CHWs do not have the salaries, professional skills, supervision, and supplies they need to succeed. Professionalising CHWs is a matter of gender and economic justice.
How do we make professional CHWs with career pathways the norm? And what impact would this have on global health goals and outcomes? How can we foster collaboration between policymakers, civil society, and women CHWs networks to drive systemic change? And how do we sustain it?
To find answers, join Women in Global Health and the Community Health Impact Coalition for a virtual event at the NGO Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) Forum to highlight the plight of women CHWs in response to the CSW68’s priority theme – Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective. The event will focus on women CHWs’ leadership and empowerment, their career progression prospects, the importance of fair compensation and recognition, and the actions needed by those working both in the health and gender equality sectors to bring about change.
This webinar will provide dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and advocacy opportunities, enhancing participants’ understanding of the challenges women CHWs face and the opportunities for policy interventions to enable their professionalization and career progression.
